Toplica, Serbia, the homeland of Jug Bogdan, Milan Toplica and Empress Milica
has been decorated for centuries with the rich vineyards, fertile orchards and
an outstanding skill of making wine and hard liquors. The activities of
Prokupac have been based on this great tradition. Prokupac, Prokuplje begins
its path of development as one orchard-vineyard cooperative founded in 1955
involving 27 cooperators. It soon developed and had about 150 cooperators
winegrowers. By the decision of the cooperative staff and the resolution of the
City Council of Prokuplje, Serbia in June 1958, the cooperative joined the
newly formed company for production and trade of alcoholic and non-alcoholic
drinks Prokupac Prokuplje. In the same year a warehouse was founded in Belgrade
which grew to be a plant of Prokupac from Prokuplje with 240 employees.
A special process of fermentation and distillation of plums produces this
brandy of supreme quality. Fresh ripened organic nature plums, grown only in
this part of Serbia, are crushed and allowed to ferment. The mash is
twice-distilled and aged in oak barrel casks. Hand selected fresh plums are
then added to yield more of the fruit taste.
After being aged for at least 10 years Manastirka gets a golden-yellow color
and a unique aroma specific for the plums of this region.
Manastirka Slivovitz is consumed chilled in a shot glass (0.3 to 0.5 dl).
Manastirka Slivovitz is a supremely perfected drink of rich flavor and heart
warming bouquet, distinct and unique amongst the world's finest drinks.
Manastirka is the natures own nectar, a gift and a blessing!
Being so remarkable Manastirka Slivovitz has been awarded over 70 gold medals
for the quality at various domestic and international fairs of alcoholic
drinks. Manastirka Slivovitz is a national drink and the most recognized
product of Serbia and Montenegro.
